Svar fra MPM motor oils
Hi Johnny,
Your story is completely correct regarding the GL4 and GL5 in the past, but now the additives are no longer sulphur-based, so this will no longer hold on.
The modern gearboxes (front-wheel drive) are nearly always integrated with the differentials and you see more and more product that they have the combination off GL 4/5.
If you give me the car details, we can check if you have the right oil for this recommendation.
For this gearbox we recommend: 10000LS - MPM GEAR OIL SAE 90 GL-5 MINERAL LIMITED SLIP
https://www.mpmoil.nl/products/10000LS/ ... mited-slip
The specification you have provided is a mineral oil, this has not changed so it will remain so otherwise there should be a new specification. A synthetic oil is not always better, as I said this has to do with the construction of the gearbox
This is a choice from the gearbox manufacture, the mineral properties, will in this case outperform the synthetic ones. It is not that a synthetic oil is better than a mineral oil, it depends on the materials and operating conditions. And the manufacturer records this in specifications.
Met vriendelijke groet, Best regards, Mit freundliche Grüßen,
