Spørsmål om definisjon campingbil (in english)

Hei!

Sorry that I write in english, my Norwegian is still very poor...

I have got a question: I am driving a T3 Westfalia Joker with a poptop. As I will be officially moving to Norway next year I will have to import the car.

According to the official definition of the Norwegian toll authority a camper has to have a permanent standing height of 1,70m behind the front seats (see point 1 of: http://www.toll.no/templates_TAD/Circul ... anguage=NO).

My questions:
1. Did anybody import a T3 with a poptop into Norway (recently), and knows if customs accepts this as a camper?
2. Does anybody of you drive a T3 with a poptop? And if yes: is this registered as a camper, as a normal car, or as something else?

Thanks for your help! I really hope that my van can be imported as a camper, as the tax would otherwise be much higher than the actual worth...

Ha det bra! Stephan

Hot tip: flyttegods.

You may not have to pay anything at all for importing it, as long as the rules for minimum time of possession before the move are satisfied.

You will have to dig out the rules by yourself. Way back when, the rules for repatriating Norwegians were that you had to have owned the car for 6 months before moving - then it would be free of charge. But - that was 20 years ago....

Hei subwoofer,

thanks for the answer. Unfortunately the 'flyttegods' option was removed some years ago. These days you have to import the car, no matter if you are Norwegian, from the EU or from some other country. Period of ownership does not come into account anymore.

Really the 'campingbil' option is the only way of importing it without losing an arm and a leg in the process - anybody out there who did import a real T3 camper with poptop recently, or who owns a T3 camper with a poptop?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Ha det bra, Stephan

The former prime minister Bondevik made sure that "flyttegods" dont exist anymore, it must soon be 10 years ago.
So it must be imported in the same way as anyone else import a car.

Edit: i see you already know :)

Hei Rune!

Yeah, thanks, I already know. But: how are your Westfalia's registered? Are the 'campingbilen', or are they 'normal' cars? Or something else?

Thanks for letting me know!

Cheers, Stephan

Unfortunately, I think the norwegian government just recently changed the criteria for 'campingbil', so that it excludes the T25 pop-top because its lack of standing height :(

That is unfortunately correct. Neither a poptop nor a hightop qualifies as a norwegian "campingbil" anymore. The new regulations require a fixed standing height of 1,7 meters in a length of 2 meters and a width of 1,5 meters. It can be measured without the interior in place, however the only T3 (T25) i know of that may pass is the Karmann gipsy...

The westfalias already registered with the old regulations are "campingbil" and will stay so for as long as they want. These new regulations came january 1 2009.

Hei Harald og Odd!

Takk også dere på informasjoner. What a shame: I think there goes my dream of taking the Westi with me to Norway. Seems like it's about 40000NOK (or more) to import it. That's just of the scale...

Thanks anyway!

Ha det bra, Stephan :(

Have you asked the actual authorities? Apparently the on-line calculator exaggerate quite a bit.

And if i have understood correctly if it is registerd as a campin car were you are moving from you can still register it as "campingbil" here. But don't quote me on that, i have no actual experience and this is taken only from what i have read here and other places on the net.

No, that is not so ThorAlex. So I do quote you on that... :D It needs to follow todays regulations as far as "vehicle category" and import duties are concerned. This is governed by the norwegian customs. What you are probably thinking of is the techical regulations, if a vehicle is imported from another EU/EEC country. Lights, exhaust, brakes and so on.
