Import approval t2 1977 from US, which lights to keep?

Hi,
Sorry my written Norwegian is very poor:) I have recently imported a 1977 t2 camper into Norway from the US. I will get her tested in a couple of days Staten Vegvesen. Does anyone have experience of doing this and what are the rules with regards to lights. For Norway?
Also anyone have any good places to get replacements lights if required to change colors?
Thanks
Robbie

Keep the red rear indicators, if that's what you worry about.
I seem to recall that the rule (1995'ish) was "if the vehicle had such lights when new" it was a keeper. Pal had a Bug that they constantly wanted him to stop having red rear lights on, they insisted his Norwegian sold Bug had orange indicators back when it got it's licence plates.
Oh, and a personal topic - get rid of anything that smells of NAS.
Others can supply more on the rules (ask Statens Vegvesen yet ?).

Parking lights (front) must be white, orange not accepted. Red side position lights and reflectors not accepted, rear end indicators must flash orange/yellow. Get rid of the sealed beam headlamps and install proper reflectors.
Www.unneberg-Bil.no should have what you need.

Green bulbs will make red lamps glow yellow, just so you know...

Hi,
I have spoken to statens vegvesen but it was a little unclear. He did say would have to swap orange parking lights? That makes no sense, this model does not have parking lights.
I don't understand what a parking light is on this model. Does this mean side lamps?
Thanks for advice!

Parking lights are the front lamps that are not high beam nor low beam. On most European cars they are integrated into the headlamps, but I don't think most sealed beams have them. As far as them being a requirement, I am not quite sure, I would have to read the regulations again.
If you have red lights or reflectors on the sides (position markers), just remove tge bulbs and blind them with aluminium tape, that is acceptable.
I went through the process with a NA spec Jensen Healey a few years back, I had to rewire a bit to get it through.

That makes sense.
i will remove the back red lights and tape as suggested.
I will disconnect the parking light function, I hope parking light is not a requirement and if it is I will replace the headlights and rewire if needed.
Great help thanks:)

Gut feeling tells me the parking lights are required, so if I were you I'd just throw the sealed beams in the bin and get H4 reflectors installed instead. I guess the T2 uses ordinary 7" reflectors, you get those at Bilextra for 7-800 a pair - with the extra bulbs in place. While not strictly illegal, the inspectors do not seem to particularly like the sealed beams. Show them you made an effort and success is more likely.

Coming to think of it, I think side indicators are a requirement too, should be yellow and somewhere near the front. NA spec cars often have them wired as position lights.
Good luck, just remember to be nice and smile to the inspector, basic psychology still applies...

Regarding headlamps for the T2...
They are the same as for the late Bug..
My '79 has the flatter ones, but any H4 will do.
Parking lights is a smaller 5w bulb, and these lights should come on when you pull the switch half-way out.
As should the rear lights.
Indicators should be in those amber lenses on either side of the fresh-air intake.
And some smaller ones on the b-pillar ( if the guys at Vegevsen is very picky..).
Headlights when you pull the switch all the way, and full lights on the steeringwheel stalk.

You can use Golf 1 headlamps. Same size as original, but the adjustment is some off but not so off you cant use it.
These fits Bay from ca 71/72 I think. The first couple of years is missing some vital fasteningpoints...

Where do you live? I have brand new Golf-lamps, but they are not H4. But you can get H4-adapted bulbs. Could also help you, if you live close to Drammen/Oslo..

If you planing to keep the car, I wil rekomend you to buy original Hella head lamps. I bought the chaep ones, H4, whith CE mark. They were ok for registration, but were so poor that they did not pas the EU kontrol tow years later. We have a -77 Westfalia we imported from California 2010.
Good Luck!
