Buy Multivan or doing conversion from Transporter?

Post by jerry »

Hello!

I wrote here before thinking what to vw van buy in norway. I was looking to buy VW T5 4Motion Multivan. Looking at ads at Finn, there is some crazy price differences between almost same van model (T5 4motion 2010) if i downgrade to Caravelle or Transporter

Just to name some current offers ->

1. Multivan (rails on floor and flexible positioning, some extra utstir, …)
NOK 599 900,-
http://m.finn.no/car/used/ad.html?finnkode=71104715

2. Caravelle (with a two lines of back sits and some isolation, bumper paint color, etc)
NOK 469 500,-
http://m.finn.no/car/used/ad.html?finnkode=63406921

3. Caravelle (basically same as nr 4 but with white plates and back sits)
NOK 399 438,-
http://m.finn.no/car/used/ad.html?finnkode=53400960

4. Transporter (green plates without back sits)
NOK 179 230
http://m.finn.no/car/used/ad.html?finnkode=72657934

There is couple of things that I was thinking about:
  • first of all - why is second-hand Multivan priced same as new one http://www.volkswagen-nyttekjoretoy.no/ ... 1-2016.pdf? Car should loose a lot of value after first years!?!
  • can I simply buy varebil ( nr 1 ) and pay tax penalty to get white plates and than drive it to conversion specialist (in UK its about NOK 100 000, for professional Multivan conversion.) - I would save 300 000,- doing that - where is the catch?
  • any taughts on self conversion or if there is any specialist in norway that would be able to do that?

To answer your first question as to why the used Multivan has the same price as a new one... You need to compare similar cars. If you look at a 4motion highline with biggest engine it cost 939k. That would be similar to the an in your ad that cost 699k. Expensive of not, i dont know.

Second, to buy a green plate van and put in seats. The regulations have become stricter and you eed to consult your local "trafikkstasjon " here in norway. Be preparerte to use only original Multivan parts, like seats, rails and belts. They do nok like home made solutions any more. And as to how Much tax you need to pay consult the norwegian customs.

Hello

thanks again for prompt answer!

You are probably right about price of new vs old - i see there no comforline on market only top models :D

So basically I need to consult local Statens Vegvesen first? Do i need to pick up parts and car first so they will know what Im talking about - or they already know this case and which parts are apropriate?

I saw one converted van on Finn and looks like original parts were used->

You do not need to have the car and all the parts before you contact them, but it helps to have a car to refer to (eg a Finn ad with regitration number) so they can look it up. And it definitely helps to have a plan as to what parts you plan to use. As a very least you need seats that uses he original fasteners in the car, and seat belts with the correct e-approval. But it definitely helps if all the parts are original.

OK, great.

Is there any shop in Norway that sells original parts or do I have to order from elsewhere?
