konvertering varebil til camper med pop top tak

Post by Dougie »

Hey there,

Sorry for writing in English but I'm in real trouble and hope someone can help.

I have had a pop top roof fitted to my varebil and paid the fee to Toll to change to personbil.

I am having a really hard time with the inspection at Statens Vegvesen Risløkka because they are worried about the B and C pillars which have been cut and modified.

The roof comes with a test certificate to say that the seatbelt anchorages still pass the EC safety directive but the inspectors say I need approval from VW to say that the modified bodywork is safe.

Now we all know that VW are not going to approve someone else's product so what can I do???

They will take my registration plates from me on the 30 June so I am really under pressure.

Any and all ideas welcome...

Med vennlig hilsen

Dougie

Well, we know that the british regulations are far more liberal than the norwegian. And everything you do here must be documented, either by the car manufacturers or by "a competent independent 3rd party" which really means the german TÜV. And there are german companies that convert these cars to pop top. So check with them what they do. Another option is of course to replace the cut up beams with original pieces and modify the bed area to fit.
